As it has been announced by Andrii Ryazantsev, Director for Economics and Finance of PAT Ukrzaliznytsia.
According to him, after public accusations against Ukrzaliznytsia as to reducing of ArcelorMittal freight volume, the railroad specialists have performed an analysis of this company cargo shipments in 2017-2018. The analysis shows that in 2018 Ukrzaliznytsia has even increased the volume of ton-kilometer works on carriage of iron ore.
“If last year ArcelorMittal cargo turnover amounted to 2 billion 223 million tons-km, then in 2018 it amounts to 2 billion 775 million tons-km, that is greater by 552 million ton-km or by 25%. Therefore, in fact we have performed works for this company by 25% more than in the previous year. Accordingly, we have provided them with more pulling power than last year as the company has started to carry its cargo over longer distances, “- commented Andrii Ryazantsev.
He also noted that at the same time freight volumes in tons remain at the level of 2017. “Thus this year we have carried the same volume of ArcelorMittal cargo tons for a much longer distances. We do not understand on what grounds company’s top management advances a claim to Ukrzaliznytsia, and what are the sources that provide top managers with unfaithful information”, – said Andrii Ryazantsev.
Moreover, according to him, at Ukrzaliznytsia request in the last quarter of 2017 all the major representatives of metallurgical industry submitted their freight plans for the current year excepting for ArcelorMittal. In his turn Andrii Ryazantsev offers ArcelorMittal management to exchange information in the future and verify with Ukrzaliznytsia the data regarding freight volumes.
“This is important, especially when preparing public statements. We appreciate partnership with our customer and have been always loyal in regards to problematic matters arisen in its work during 2018. It refers to locomotive crew’s strike, and also an explosion at enterprise that has provoked significant reduction in regularity of freight pace during this year and made it difficult for UZ to fulfill even last year’s ArcelorMittal freight indicators. In this regard I consider that public accusations made against Ukrzaliznytsia would have to be refuted in the same way. Otherwise it would be difficult for all of us to look into eyes of those locomotive crews of Ukrzaliznytsia who selflessly helped the enterprise to restore its operations while undergoing physical danger and moral pressure on the part of ArcelorMittal strikers” – said Andrii Ryazantsev.
